Update - 24/09/09
Thanks to everyones huge generosity and the imaginative fundraising events held by friends and family we have reached and smashed our initial £15,000 target a lot quicker than any of us could have ever hoped. As you can see from the photograph, Martin now has his golden leaf on the Christie Tree of Hope. We will continue raising money for Martins fund and the Christie in the future and will allocate raised funds toward the employment of complimentary therapists and the accomodation for patient families.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Martin passed away in November of last year, just 2 weeks after being diagnosed with leukaemia. All money raised for Martin's charity will be going to The Young Oncology Unit (Y.O.U.) at The Christie where Martin was well looked after. We also have a Tribute Fund set up for the Y.O.U and all money raised will be included in this. If we can raise £15,000 Martin’s name will feature on a golden leaf on The Christie's Tree of Hope, which acts as a plaque in memory of Martin - something Martin's family is keen to achieve. With your help we are also hoping to be able to fund a Complimentary Therapist on the Y.O.U. for a whole year. During Martin's short time in hospital, he had his first massage from a Complimentary Therapist, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Anybody can contribute to this fund by being involved in a sponsored event by choosing Christies as their chosen charity and then let one of Martin's family contact the Y.O.U. to ensure the money is included in Martin's Tribute Fund. Any friends that are doing private fundraising can either donate directly to this page or have a link added to the bottom of this page to their Justgiving Page.
By donating this way, it is also possible to claim gift aid on anything donated. For this to work, you need to count the money collected, bank it into your personal account, then donate in the usual way on this site from your personal account. We have checked with the head of fundraising at Christie's and this is perfectly legal.
Thank you for visiting Martin's fundraising page and thank you for everyone who has contributed to Martin's Tribute Fund.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor Martin's charity: Christie's gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you for your support.
