We fund life-changing and life-saving work to support cancer patients at The Christie

Story

Venue: Hawcoat Park FC

Kick off: 1pm - can all players arrive @ 11.00am.

All XL Shirts have now been snapped up.  Plenty of L left!

On Saturday 20th June 2009, there will be a Charity Football Match held in memory of Martin Pears and Jake Ellis.  Jake was a 5 year old boy who also passed away in November after battling with a rare form of cancer - Rhabdomyosarcoma – since being diagnosed just before his 1st birthday.  There will be one team representing Martin called "TINBO UNITED" and one team representing Jake called “JAKE FC”.

Players for TINBO UNITED will be asked to pay £10 for their place in the team.  Your £10 will pay for your kit (shirt and shorts) - please bring your own BLACK socks to look good for the cameras.  I think the shirt will be something nice for those involved to keep.  Every penny of your £10 goes towards Martin's Tribute Fund, as Bardsea Leisure have been kind enough to sponsor us – so a big THANK YOU to them.

All money raised for Martin's charity will be going to The Young Oncology Unit (Y.O.U.) at The Christie where Martin was well looked after.  We also have a Tribute Fund set up for the Y.O.U and all money raised will be included in this.  If we can raise £15,000 Martin’s name will feature on a golden leaf on The Christie's Tree of Hope, which acts as a plaque in memory of Martin - something Martin's family is keen to achieve.  We raised £4,125 from funeral donations so we are getting there, and many of his friends are participating in events such as the Great North Run and Keswick to Barrow too.

I have set up this page to make the job of collecting money as easy as possible.  By donating online I can see who is serious about playing and get an idea of how many players we are going to have.

If you are visiting this page I assume you have been approached by myself or David.  Obviously we have to have a limit to how many players we can have.  If you have found this page by hearing from anyone else, please contact myself or David first, as your £10 will NOT guarantee you a place in the team, and once pledged cannot be retrieved from the charity.

We are looking for approximately 20 players who can manage 45 minutes. There will be places for a few oldies who want 5 or 10 minutes at the end of each half.

We have received 31 kits (22 large, 9 x-large).  Once you have donated your £10 on this page, request your kit size and those who pay first will get their choice of size.  Also, state your position to give me an idea of a starting lineup.  All shorts are one size and classified as LARGE.  Looking at the shorts I think they will fit everyone, but if you are concerned about this, please bring a spare pair of BLACK shorts as backup.

Those who are wanting to be Goalkeepers - your £10 will get you an orange kit.  We are not having any special GK Jerseys printed so please either provide your own, or I can lend a GK top on the day.

Thank you for visiting TINBO UNITED’s fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor the event: Christie's gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.
