Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On July 15th of this year my grandad was told the heartbreaking news that he had a brain tumour, which was a Grade 4, meaning it is highly aggressive and therefore means he does not have much time left with us.

Through this horrendous time i decided that i would run the Virgin 2010 London Marathon, with a pledge that i would raise a minimum of £2000, for my chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillans ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer, provide practical support at home, from precious time of for a carer to a lift to the hospital, providing emotional support and information, along with financial help to cover anything from heating bills to travel costs.

So you see its so very important that we keep on raising money to help the lifes of those who are very sadly living with cancer.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

So im writing this today on the 15th of december and christmas is just around the corner.

This morning my grandad was brought home from Hinckley And Bosworth community hospital where he has spent the last couple of weeks. He went in for respite for the family and because the staff there could give him 24hour care, something that was really needed as the tumor was obviously growing quite fast again so things had started to go back to the way they were at the beginning, for example family needing to sleep over again at night.

I havent really had chance to update my page but would just like to take this oppotunity to thank everybody who has made a donation, both using my online page and my sponsor forms,it really is a boost when sometimes i might be feeling like its too cold and wet to go out running or im too tired, and then i come on my page and see someone has sponsored me, it makes me run even further!

I hope to be running 12 miles by the end of jan, its been quite hard trying to fit training in the last month because everytime i drop charlie of i go straight to spend time with my grandad, but after christmas i will be training everyday, so please guys please get your sponsors in before the end of april.

Thank you to everyone who has shown their support, lots of love leanne And Family xxxxxxxxxxxx

On the 30th of October i organised a Halloween fancy dress party at the Queen in Blaby. The idea was to have someone on the door taking entrance money of everyone coming in but this didnt happen and me and my good friend hayles taped the posters for the party to some buckets and went round trying to get as much money as possible!Altogether £144 was raised, which is alot better then nothing at all!

Thanks to Julie and Ian for decorating the room and to my friend Jamie who very kindly volunteered to dj for the night!

Once again i would just like to say a big thank you to those of you that took the time and sponsored me over christmas, a time when everybody is usually spent up!

Happy New Year to all of you, it obviously wasnt a happy one for the Thompson family, we spent New Years eve and day by my grandads bedside,he had the whole family with him Christmas day and managed a bit of xmas dinner and pudding which was nice, big thank you to my friends who came to visit whilst he was in the hospital and those who have come to the house, it means alot.

So yesterday was my first day running in bad weather...snow!And yes i skidded over!Wasnt as bad as i expected after being out of the game for a few weeks! Will keep you all updated on my progress!Love leanne xx

Sadly my amazing grandad passed away on Friday 8th of jan, after what must of been a very long seven months for him.I am so pleased that i was holding his hand and that the majority of the family were there,i almost feel as if he knew, because one thing that made him happy was when the family were together,no carers or doctors or nurses were there,no visitors,no one had gone to the toilet,or outside,or to make a drink,or walked to the shop,or nipped home for a shower, like we all had been doing that day.I cant quite find the words to say how proud i am of him, he was an absolute treasure throughout his illness, never did he complain, always had manners and polite words for anyone who was caring for him,ok maybe not always with the family which is understandable when we are telling him he cannot get out of bed but even then he always managed to be funny with it,i cant believe how well he did for someone who was so poorly,i will never forget that and try and take some strength from the whole thing.

I am also very proud of how the family coped during his illness and how well my mum and auntie did especially during the last 2 months which i feel were awful,i know my grandad could of not asked for anymore and would be so grateful and so proud,he deserved to be looked after with so much love, because he was worth his weight in gold without a doubt.

Finally at peace and free from such a horrid, horrid disease, but we will all miss him so much, i for one feel like there is a huge part of me missing and a big part of my life that can never be filled, the illness will always be at the back of our minds everyday but its the memories that will help us go on.

Big loves to everyone that cared about him xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

On the 6th of march i managed to complete my first 13 miles,13.23 to be exact,so im halfway there! This was me basically setting of from mums house in countesthorpe and running into leicester,to the prison, then around freeman common, back to blaby, through whetstone, back round through all of blaby,up to countesthorpe, back into blaby and around the estates twice more before heading back to mums.

I did think running into leicester and back would be enough but on checking my pedometre it appeared that wasnt the case and i was determined to clock more miles up and reach my halfway mark!I ran up mums street to hear mum, sam, carly and charlie standing on the front cheering me on,i think they were giving me a little taster of what they will sound like on raceday!(cringe!)

I was glad to get home and was aching for about an hour, and it sounds as though two and a half hours is not bad for my first attempt.Watch this space.....
