Story
Updated 27 September 2010
Hi all,
I completed the Marathon yesterday in 4 hours, 19 minutes and 51 seconds. Whilst this was a bit over my target of 4 hours, I'm still chuffed to bits about it! With a knee injury in the week before the run, I did have a few small doubts as to whether I'd be able to run at all!
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. The Christie do some fantastic work for people suffering from Cancer, and I hope at the least that the experimental treatment that did not neccesarily work for Martin, along with the money that Martin, David, Jenny and myself all raised will help people in the future to deal with and survive these agrressive Cancer types.
I know that the discomfort and pain I felt (mostly between 39 and 41km) was absolutely nothing in comparison to what Martin went through in his final weeks, though not once did I hear of him complaining to anyone about it.
I hope he'd have been pleased to see the effort that we've all made on his behalf. I really think though he'd have also enjoyed stirring it up between his brother Stephen and I - "26 miles... how hard can it be! You could do that quicker than Nige, right Steve? A Turner couldn't lose to a Brant, surely..."
Thanks again to everyone. The donations and show of support really does mean a lot to my family and myself at this time.
Cheers
Nige

Hi all, I'm off to Berlin tonight, I can't believe it's come along so quickly! Thanks to everyone who's donated so far!

Just under two weeks to go, and training has taken a back seat in the last month, due to two funerals, and two weeks in Seville with work. Although my time for the half marathon was not as quick as I'd hoped, the next week will hopefully get me back on track with the running, just in time for the main event. Once again, thanks to everyone who has supported me so far.

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. My cousin Martin passed away on Wednesday, 18th August. Whilst my family is obviously upset, it's a small comfort to know that your generosity will help people in the future who suffer a similar affliction. The work the christie does will carry on.

Hi all, recent update, running into work and back 3 times a week is a quick way to fitness, lots of washing and joggers nipple! Managed a 16 mile run on Friday in under 2:25...
Hi Everyone!
For those of you that know me, I've been talking about running a Marathon for several years... For those of you that know me better, you'll be surprised to see that I've now actually gone and entered one! And to make sure that I don't just do my usual 'hmmm, three days before a race, I'd better start training' I've entered a couple more events along the way!
13 February 2010 - Family Tandem Skydive
£240 raised (separate to this Just Giving Page) for The Christie from my colleagues at Airbus - Many thanks people!!!
11 April 2010 - The Blackpool Half Marathon
Time ran - 1:54:54 on a target of sub 2 hours
16 May 2010 - The Great Manchester Run
Time ran - 49:11 on a target of sub-50 mins
05 September 2010 - The Bristol Half Marathon
Time ran 1:53:03 on a target of sub 1:45
26 September 2010 - The Berlin Marathon
Time ran 4:19:51 on a target of sub 4 hrs
I'll update the list of events as I go along.
The reason for spuring myself into action is to raise money for The Christie Hospital in Manchester which everyday helps people afflicted by Cancer.
My 27 Year old cousin Martin was diagnosed with an agressive form of Melanoma barely 3 years ago, which has so far defied several surgical and medical attemps to remove it from his body. He has since been told that there is little else that conventional treatment can do.
Earlier this year, we had the good news that Martin had been accepted onto a clinical trial at The Christie Hospital, and he is receiving pioneering treatment at this very moment.
Martin, his brothers Paul (aka Wiggy) and Stephen, sister Jenifer and myself all participated in the Blackpool Half Marathon. Unfortunately Martin wasn't able to participate in the Manchester 10K due to some difficulties with some of his treatment, but the rest of us took part, alongside another of their brothers, David.
For the Berlin Marathon though, I'll be living the lonely existance of the Long Distance Runner... along with several-thousand others!
All donations will be greatly appreciated by myself and the hard-working staff at The Christie.
