Story
Okay, it’s done,
Had and excellent day, with only a couple of light showers which were more refreshing than anything else, although they proved too much for my little paper Christie flag. Managed to finish in 4 hours 42 minutes and came in 50th out of 82. I was very pleased with the time, well, actually I was very pleased when someone said I could stop running now. A big thank you to all of you for supporting me in this challenge, it means a lot to me. Especially, the fellow runner who foolishly asked what the flag was for and then said he would sponsor me, and did. I'll upload a before (Flag intact), during (Looking good, must be early in the race!) and after picture (28 miles, 4 hours 42 minutes later and ten years older) for your general amusement.
Thanks again you're all amazing.
Dave
Well,
I've decided to do the Lairig Ghru Hill Race in aid of the Christie, one of the worlds leading cancer research and treatment centres. The reason is that at the end of January this year my youngest brother Martin was diagnosed with terminal cancer. What motivated me to attempt this race was the courageous way in which Martin has faced this situation. On finding out his condition was inoperable, he took up running, hill walking and organised and tandem skydive for himself, his brothers and sister, cousins and friends. (I’ve only recently stopped waking up screaming)
Martin has since run the Blackpool Half marathon and will be running the 10k in aid of the Christie, and myself, my sister Jenny, brother Paul and cousin Nigel will be joining him.
As Martin is achieving so much I've decided to do my bit and have a go at the Lairig Ghru Hill Race, a 28 mile race from the Police station at Braemar to the Police station at Aviemore via the Lairig Ghru pass, total ascent 2100 feet. The furthest I've ever run is 14 miles, so halfway there! You must be able to complete the race within 6 hours, my target time is to finish before everyone else has gone home!
This is a big challenge for me, but whatever you can donate will be greatly appreciated and put to good use by the Christie fighting this terrible disease. No amount is too small!
Cheers
