The religious sacrifice of an animal on the days of Eid-Ul-Adha is known as a Qurbani. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) was once asked by his companions: O Prophet of Allah! What is Qurbani? He replied, It is the Sunnah of your father lbrahim (as). They further asked, What benefit do we get from it? He answered, A reward for every hair (of the sacrificed animal). And (what reward is there for animals with) wool, O Prophet of Allah (saw)?, they asked. A reward, he said, for every fibre of the wool. (Ibn Majah)

The main purpose of donating your Qurbani is to provide support for disadvantaged people who are suffering the effects of extreme poverty & starvation.

The animals which are eligible for Qurbani are Cows, Buffalos & Camels, (which are divided in to 7 parts, 1 part equating to 1 Qurabani), along with sheeps & goats which are classed as a single Qurbani (as a whole).

In accordance with the actions/Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (saw) & In addition to your own Qurbani, a Qurbani can also be donated on behalf of the Ummah, deceased Muslims as well as on behalf of our beloved prophet Mohammed (saw).

The majority of Muslims accept Qurbani to be obligatory on each Adult Muslim who pays Zakat, however a Qurbani donation cannot be made from your Zakat & Sadaqah as it is classed as a separate obligation in itself.
