Story
Hello there!
As many of you know, I’m running the New York Marathon 2010 on Sunday 7 November 2010. Some of you have asked if you can sponsor us so I’ve set up this page to raise money for the disability charity Get Kids Going. I'd really appreciate your support.
As a family, with the other 100 or so Get Kids Going runners, we will run the International Friendship Run the day before, which is a 2 mile jog from the United Nations Building through Times Square and along Broadway to Central Park with over 15,000 international runners taking part – all carrying the flags of their country!
The following morning I will be up bright and early to get to the start line at Verrazano's Narrows Bridge to run through the streets of the Big Apple's five boroughs lined with over two million cheering spectators and watched by 315 million TV viewers worldwide!
As we enjoy sport and have personal experience of disability, we think Get Kids Going is a great charity to support. So here’s the pitch:
“Get Kids Going! is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 yrs - the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. We help promote sports for disabled children by providing them with specially built sports’ wheelchairs so they can do marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, mountain skiing, rugby, basketball etc. Get Kids Going! also helps and encourages British disabled children to compete by supporting them with their sports; training, physiotherapy, travel, design and development of sports’ wheelchairs. With your help many could become record holders and Paralympic champions!
Get Kids Going! also provides personalised manual wheelchairs and trikes for children to use every day; at home, at school, and to enable them to play with their friends. We believe that all disabled children and young people should receive the right equipment to get them going! We support children with all disabilities and make sure that any equipment which is out grown is recycled to other children, so supporters’ valuable donations are never wasted.”More about the charity: http://www.getkidsgoing.com
