6 peaks, 1 bike & 500 miles.......

The Challange - 6 Peaks, 1 Bike, 500 Miles, 8 Days....................lots of pain!!!
IN MEMORY OF MATTHEW WALLBANK.
On the 24th May 2008, Matthew died suddenly in his sleep whilst in London for his friends wedding. The reason for his death was sudden adult death syndrome (SADS).
At least 12 seemingly fit & healthy yound people die from this condition every week in the UK. Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) support people diagnosed with this condition, offer answers to questions and support to familys who have lost a loved one to SADS, and raise awareness and promote screening of yound people to diagnose heart conditions.
So in Matthew's memory and to rise awareness and vital funds for CRY we have set ourselves the 6 peaks challenge.
We set off on Saturday 5th September 2009 and climb Ben Nevis, we then climb on the bikes and cycle down to Scafell Pike and set off climbing that. We then jump back on the bikes and cycle into Yorkshire and climb Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. So thats 5 down, only 1 to go........easy!!!!
Next it is back on the bikes as we venture into Wales and head towards Snowdon. Dismounting the bikes we then ignore the pain in our legs and climb mountain number 6, Snowdon!!!! So that's 6 peaks and mile upon mile complete within 8 days and hopefully lots of vital funds raised for Cardiac Risk in the Young.
The team putting themselves through lots of pain and suffering over the next few months, include:
Eddie Whittle
Nick Bousfield
Richard John
Jonathan Smith
As well as CRY we are also raising vital funds for two other important charities who cared for my Dad during his long and heroic battle with cancer. They have also supported other family members and friends as well who have in someway been affected by this terrible disease.
