The Challange - 6 Peaks, 1 Bike, 500 Miles, 8 Days....................lots of pain!!!
IN MEMORY OF MATTHEW WALLBANK.
In January 2006, my Dad lost his long yet heroic battle against cancer. Both my dad and the rest of the family could not have got through this terrible time without the help and support of the staff at East Lancashire Hospce.
Due to this support I decided to give something back and help East Lancs Hospice help others suffering with cancer. So I decided to do the 3 peaks challenge for Macmillan & East Lancashire Hospice, in August 2008. However, due to the sad and unexpected death of my very good friend Matthew Wallbank, who died in his sleep whilst we were in London for our friends wedding, I postponed the event until September this year. I then added another 3 peaks and an extra charity (Cardiac Risk in the Young) to the list.
So in Matthew's memory and to rise awareness and vital funds for East Lancs Hospice we have set ourselves the 6 peaks challenge.
We set off on Saturday 5th September 2009 and climb Ben Nevis, we then climb on the bikes and cycle down to Scafell Pike and set off climbing that. We then jump back on the bikes and cycle into Yorkshire and climb Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent. So thats 5 down, only 1 to go........easy!!!!
Next it is back on the bikes as we venture into Wales and head towards Snowdon. Dismounting the bikes we then ignore the pain in our legs and climb mountain number 6, Snowdon!!!! So that's 6 peaks and mile upon mile complete within 8 days and hopefully lots of vital funds raised for Cardiac Risk in the Young.
The team putting themselves through lots of pain and suffering over the next few months, include:
Eddie Whittle
Nick Bousfield
Richard John
Jonathan Smith
