The current situation for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh is critical.
Close to 1 million Rohingya Muslims have been forced to flee to the country as a result of persecution & violence in their home lands.
They are now unprotected & facing a major humanitarian crisis as they struggle to survive in refugee camps.
They lack access to adequate shelter, food, water, medical care & other essential services.
Many of the refugees are living in overcrowded & unsanitary conditions which leave them vulnerable to disease, malnutrition & in severe cases death.
The situation has become so dire, the United Nations has warned that it could become one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent memory.
More than half of the Rohingya refugee population in Bangladesh is facing food insecurity, with many individuals relying on just one meal a day.
Countless others will continue starve on a daily basis without any food at all. They dont know where their next meal will come from & are hoping on a miracle.
Families & children reliant on food aid for survival cannot wait. They need support before its too late.
The dire situation for Rohingya refugees has been exacerbated by the lack of access to clean drinking water available within the camps.
Countless families & children often have no option but to walk miles each day in search of water.
However, the battle for survival does not end there, many continue to drink contaminated water from polluted sources in order to quench their thirst, further endangering their health.
With limited access to healthcare facilities, they are vulnerable & exposed to waterborne illnesses such as diarrhoea, cholera & hepatitis.
Living conditions for Rohingya refugees are extremely challenging.
They have little to no protection with many living out in the open, & others suffering in overcrowded makeshift tents.
The little shelter available to them offers no real protection & is often fabricated of cloth or thin plastic sheets laid upon open mud floors.
As a result, they remain exposed to harsh weather conditions such as extreme cold, rain & intense heat.
Children in particular are extremely vulnerable to the devastating effects of poverty & displacement.
They are unable to access basic necessities such as food, healthcare, & education, leaving them unable to grow, stay healthy as well as hindering their future prospects.
Already suffering from trauma & emotional distress they are trapped in crisis.
Unfortunately, the resources available for Rohingya refugees are limited & their access to basic services is often inadequate or non-existent.
This lack of support can be devastating, not only putting the lives of refugees in danger but also having a long-term impact on every aspect of their lives.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic impact on displaced refugees in Bangladesh.
Limited access to healthcare, high unemployment rates & an increased need for aid have made their already difficult living conditions even worse.
The economic turmoil caused by the pandemic has pushed millions of refugees deeper in to severe poverty.
The crisis has created a lasting need for urgent humanitarian assistance for hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees.
