We support people with sickle cell disease to improve their overall quality of life

Story

On 22 December 2008, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/63/L63 that recognises sickle cell disease as a public health problem and “one of the world’s foremost genetic diseases.”   The resolution calls for member States and the organizations of the United Nations system to raise awareness of sickle-cell anaemia on June 19th of each year at national and international level.

The Sickle Cell Society will be celebrating World Sickle Cell Day on Friday 19th June 2015. We are requesting the community to support us by:

-          Organise a charity stall in your local area to help raise awareness of sickle cell disease

-          Organise a fundraising event to help raise funds to enable us to continue providing support

-          Organise a dress down day on Friday 19th June at your workplace and ask colleagues to donate £1 to raise funds

-          Organise a talk at your workplace to help raise awareness of sickle cell disease

As part of our World Sickle Cell Day activities we are also requesting all churches to say a prayer on Sunday 21st June 2015 and have special collection on the day in aid of The Sickle Cell Society.  Sunday 21st June is Fathers day and we wish to raise awareness of sickle cell disease amongst men.  Please email info@sicklecellsociety.org for prayer sheet and details of how to organise a collection.

Since 1979 The Sickle Cell Society has helped thousands of people and families/carers affected by sickle cell disease by providing information, advice, advocacy, raising awareness, providing welfare and educational grants, annual children’s holiday, respite support services, hospital visits, home help, befriending and mentoring, assist into research, hold talks, patient education seminars, training, campaigning and lobbying for better service provision.

You can also make a donation using your mobile phone.  Please text WSCD19 (SPACE) £3 and text to the number 70070.  There is no cost to you for sending the text message and your free allowance/bundle will not be affected - the only charge will be the donation itself. The Sickle Cell Society will receive 100% of your text donation (including Gift Aid).
