Story

Interior Sindh is the poorest region of Pakistan and life is very difficult for those who live there.

The people of the region live in a harsh climate and drought most of the year. Unemployment is at its peak and their main source of earning and food is through farming, although this is very rare due to the climate and condition of the soil. This region receives very low precipitation, so water is scarce.

There are three adjacent villages in the interior Sindh, District Dadu, Tehsil Meharh. These villages are Garhi, Solangi and Betal. They are 30 Kilometres from Meharh and 92 Kilometres from Dadu.

The villages have a combined population of around 2000 people, including young children. Their biggest concern is the lack of drinking water. There is no water supply line in this area and there is no nearby water tank or well from where they can fetch drinkable water. They travel 3 to 4 kilometres to fetch water.

The installation of a water facility in this area is the burning need of the day. Representatives from each village jointly contacted Ar-Rahmah Trust Pakistan and requested for a project to be undertaken to provide them water.

A small area has designated for a water facility in the middle village of Betal on the side of a single road that runs through all three villages. This will mean that people from all three villages will have access to clean water at any time.

We have been advised that the best solution is a large bore hole that reaches 300 feet into the ground coupled with a large motor pump and an adjacent water tank made from bricks, mortar and sealed with plaster. The tank will be large enough to hold up to 500 litres.

The total cost of the installation will be £1200
