About Walworth Golden Oldies Community Care Project
Golden Oldies is a pioneering organisation which was set up by members of the ‘SS Windrush generation’ of post war Caribbean migrants to the United Kingdom, to promote friendship, independence, and health living experiences as they faced the challenges of growing older in the United Kingdom.
Our aim is to provide a befriending service to help reduce isolation and promote inclusion across the generations and independent living for users by providing a range of support services relevant to the interests and culture of people from a Black and Ethnic Minority background.
Our Trustees are members of the BAME community who have had extensive experiences of working with a range of agencies and community organisations and helping to make a positive difference in the lives of older people from an overseas background in Southwark for the past 20 years. This has been achieved by providing high quality friendly and culturally sensitive day care and support services enabling older people choice and dignity in old age and assisting and enabling them to make choices which are right for them.
Our service helps to support clients to follow their hobbies and interests, which in turn will enhance their self-confidence and independence while decreasing their sense of isolation. Although this project is open to all older people, we intend to have a specific focus on the BAME community.
