Story

Hello, my name is Robin Frape and I have Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), an inherited eye disease (thanks Dad), that affects approximately one in 3,000 people.

RP affects people in many different ways, including the severity and rate of deteriorating vision.

For me, RP has not only diminished my peripheral vision, but also severely damaged my central vision. I am legally blind in my right eye and have many distorted spots in my left eye.

I had to give up my job as a hydrographic surveyor (the best job in the world as far as I was concerned) and basically go into forced retirement.

Retirement is tough when you are not ready, especially with crummy eyes. So after four years of flailing in the abyss it was time to, in the words of Andy Dufresne “…get busy living, or get busy dying!"

I met a beautiful woman named Julie and decided it was time to start living again. Julie and I are going to walk around the world raising awareness and money for RP research and support, as well as collecting as many visual memories before my eyes are no longer able to.

Our journey will start in the UK from the Isle of Wight up to Scotland and down through Ireland. You can follow us on our Facebook page: Walking Terra Firma for Blindness – RP (WTF) and please feel free to like and share our journey.

Any donations are greatly appreciated and can be done on this Just Giving page.
