Our Meththa Foundation-UK is a registered charity. ( UK Charity No 1135141). Our sister organization, founded in 1994 and formally registered in 2010, facilitates physical rehabilitation of the disabled in Sri Lanka. In the war-torn area alone, nearly 5000 amputees were resulted from the civil war. Approximately 20,000 people in Sri Lanka are amputees.
In the National Hospital alone, approximately 800 amputations are performed annually. In peacetime, diabetes and injuries, such as road traffic accidents, are the most common causes of amputations. Sri Lanka's National Health Service does not provide satisfactory prosthetic rehabilitation services. Due to the high cost of private prostheses, amputees without prostheses become dysfunctional individuals.
In addition to providing artificial limbs and appliances to children with neurological disabilities and muscular dystrophies, our services have evolved to fill this void gradually in many districts of the Island.
