Great Manchester Run 10k 2019 · 19 May 2019 ·
On May 19th I will be running the Manchester 10K for the Christie because Cancer remains one of the biggest killers in the UK.
I am running in loving memory of our close family friend Rick who lost his battle with cancer 1 year ago. Rick was diagnosed with Stage 4 Terminal Cancer of the Esophagus in August 2015 and was given no more than 12 months to live by his doctors.
Rick went to the Christie for drug trials which couldn't save his life but prolonged it above any doctors expectations. Rick always faced his fight with cancer bravely, he never complained, his attitude towards his illness was always to keep going. He meditated, he played in his band idiot box and dreamed of buying a camper van and chasing the sun. He was the funniest and most caring man and he is sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rick's tumor continued to grow and he underwent chemotherapy in the last few weeks of his life. He tragically lost his battle with cancer on April 11th 2018.
In addition to Ricks brave battle my Nanna was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer of the womb in March. She underwent a full hysterectomy and having caught it early she is now cancer free. This would not be possible without all of the efforts of organisations like the Christie.
I am running this 10K for him and everyone and anyone who has been affected by this awful disease.
