Story
Young people are our future, and their attitudes to the planet they live on, will be one of the most critical and powerful influences on long term conservation success.
For Vic's Big Day, she has funded a playground in Lusaka Zambia - it is part of the Wildlife Discovery Centre established by Game Rangers International with the help of The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
The Centre provides free conservation education to young Zambian children mainly from the lowest income schools.
Through interactive displays the conservation issues facing the Zambian landscape and wildlife, are brought to life together with efforts to resolve them.
Tailor made 'Discovery Days', transport school children for a full day of conservation education, nature trails, quizzes, and play. They also receive a hot lunch, and small gifts to take home.
Most excitingly of all, they get to see Zambia's orphaned elephants, who are expertly cared for on their rehabilitation journey back to the wild. This will be almost always their first opportunity to see an elephant in real life. This magical experience can touch their lives forever and shape their mindset towards wildlife and conservation in general.
A Discovery Day costs £250 for full day at the Centre, for 20 school children. Any donation however small will be very gratefully received and will go towards funding as many school visits as possible.
For Vic's Birthday we would love to touch the lives of these young people - which would be a gift that really will give back for years to come. A 'gift that keeps on giving' to our fragile planet.
With Love and Thanks
