Story
I was lucky enough to travel to Ethiopia last year to see first hand the work that Orbis are doing and to meet the locals both in the villages in South Ethiopia and the thousands doing the great Ethiopian Run. The challenges faced by the country and its people are immense and yet they are tackling them and learning to overcome them. The work of Orbis has made a huge difference - the villages I went to had running water, sanitation, schools where kids were happy to go and clinics where life saving treatment guaranteeing their sight can be performed.
Having said never again, the work I saw on the trip inspired me to sign up for the Dublin marathon 2020....and this 20/20 is the start of the training. Given what’s going on in the world at present it’s likely the marathon will be postponed - so on the basis that I promise that I will run it whenever it’s rearranged - can I ask you to sponsor me for the marathon at the start of my training (and not the finish line). Appreciate money is tight for many at the minute but as you will see from below a little can make a hell of a difference.
It costs just 6 euro to conduct a sight-saving surgery in Ethiopia for those at immediate risk of blindness. Due to COVID-19, the essential healthcare Orbis provides is needed more than ever to ensure that the sight of many people is saved. In Ethiopia, emergency surgeries and post-operative patient care is continuing at our partner hospitals and clinics. Trichiasis (TT) surgery is continuing for those who come to primary and secondary eye care units. You can help us Save Sight with Exercise today by making a donation! We welcome any amount big or small, your support will go a long way in helping us to continue our mission to fight avoidable blindness.Thank you!
