Story
The Russian war on Ukraine has so far resulted in the internal displacement of ¼ of Ukraine’s population of 44 million people, with several million more forced to flee as refugees outside of the country. There is not a part of Ukraine untouched by this war. Ukraine’s medical system is stressed to the breaking point. Evidence that Russian forces are deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, clinics, and schools has already led 41 nations to refer Russia’s behavior to the International Criminal Court for the investigation of war crimes.
We are two Rochester area child neurologists motivated to organize the delivery of needed medical supplies directly to physician colleagues in Ukraine.
Dr. Yuliya Snyder received her MD with honors from Kharkiv National Medical University, and then completed her child neurology training and neuromuscular fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is currently a child neurologist at Rochester Regional Health (https://www.rochesterregional.org/physician-directory/s/snyder-yuliya).
Dr. Alex Paciorkowski received his MD from the University of Connecticut, where he then completed pediatrics and medical genetics training, followed by child neurology training at Washington University in St. Louis. He is currently a child neurologist and neurogeneticist at the University of Rochester Medical Center / Golisano Children’s Hospital (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/people/21779848-alexander-r-paciorkowski).
Working with physicians who are on the ground in Kharkiv, Lviv, Cherkassy and Ivano-Frankivsk, we are delivering medications and supplies to Eastern and Western Ukraine (see updates below for all facilities that benefited). Items are purchased through charitable organization www.blessing.org or Rochester General Hospital (www.rochesterregional.org) pharmacy and we ship them to Ukraine or through charitable organization Future for Ukraine Foundation (www.ffu.foundation/en) that purchases them in Poland and Ukraine and delivers them to the hospitals and other medical facilities in need.
WE NEED YOUR HELP – We are collecting monetary donations to support the purchase of medical supplies and non-controlled substance medications now for Ukrainian hospitals.
