Story

My name is Ihor Luhovyi. I am 35 years old, and I'm from Chernihiv, Ukraine. I have a wife, a son with cerebral palsy disability, parents, relatives, friends. We lived our lives, worked, had a business, raised and rehabilitated my son, started to build a house, planned for the future.

But… on February 24, 2022 our lives changed.

My day started with a phone call from my sister from Kharkiv: "Igor, get up, Kharkiv is being bombed" -these words I will remember for the rest of my life.

From the first day of the war there are lines at gas stations, lines at supermarkets, alarming suitcases, sirens, the sound of artillery fire, the siege of Chernihiv, tank and artillery battles, military planes from Belarus and the destruction of the city, and death.

But it's not our way to give up. On the first day, we were able to purchase 400 liters of diesel at the gas station, from fundraised money and we distributed free of charge: medicines, food, generators to the civilians and delivered military supplies and aid as well as food and medicine to the front line.

On March 6, 2022, I made the first evacuation of the civilian population to west of Ukraine, from where brought humanitarian aid (food and medicine) to Chernihiv, then reloaded people and again brought military aid… and so as of today 21 evacuation circles have been done, more than 1,200 people (adults and children) was saved.  It was difficult, there was a time when we did it under heavy fire, almost did not sleep, one circle could take 5 days because everything had to be done carefully.  My convoy was under military cover all the time.  Unfortunately, our country was not ready for war, so everyone has to become an army, as everyone tries to help each other.

We are working with MAD Foundation to take more people out of bad situation. We worked with John and MAD Foundation on many extractions to get them safe to Poland and further countries. My convoy is still needed transporting refugees free of charge for them, we provide humanitarian aid to the civilians and military aid to troops thanks to donations, but for all this all time we need the funds and I asking for your support so we can keep running extraction of refugees.

War is not over and my task is not finished yet…
