The Tulovo Youth Empowerment Fund is a fund set up to support the personal development of young people in Tulovo.
Tulovo is a village of about 1300, evenly divided between Bulgarian and Roma residents, at the foot of the Sredna Gora mountains.
Tulovo’s residents have few opportunities for economic progress. The population is nearly evenly divided between Roma (Gypsy) and ethnic Bulgarians, but their relationship is generally positive. Possibilities for good employment are few and far between as most of the Roma population in menial services such as sweeping sidewalks or hauling trash, or agricultural jobs either nearby or in the village itself.
A team from One Collective has been working in Tulovo using an Integrated Community Transformation model. In recent years they have been supporting the school and local young people to support their personal development and help them build skills and vision for their future.
The Tulovo Youth Empowerment Fund was initiated to provide growth opportunities, teaching, seminars, and practical learning and work experience to young people in Tulovo.
The fund supports young people with artistic and musical talents, funds seminars for young people, provides some salary for local young people to work as interns, and is a pot of money to use creatively to help support young people's dreams for their future.
The fund supports young people like Andre: Shy. Tentative. Uncertain. These words could easily describe Andre just a few months ago. A generous gift last spring made it possible for ten Tulovo youth to attend a discipleship week. That’s where Andre found his voice in prayer, gained confidence in understanding how God’s Word applies to his life. Now he is admired by many around the village for his solid moral character as a follower of Jesus. He uses his artistic gifts to express his growing faith and reach others with truths about Jesus. He sees and empathizes with the invisible, ready to help with any need.
