Aspire Channel Swim 2017 11/09/17 - 04/12/17 · 4 December 2017 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2017, swimming the distance of the Channel over 12 weeks to raise money for Aspire. Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently. This is a big challenge, but the more I raise, the more of a difference I'll make, so please be generous!

I was born with a spinal condition and understand the challenges this brings but I am fortunate enough to still be able to live independently and work in a job I love (NHS Mental Health). I have recently been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (Stage 3) and I want to get fitter whilst I still can and try and stabilise my kidney function. If I can raise money for a fantastic cause whilst improving my own lifestyle, it's a win-win situation:)
