The challenge - 650km in May (previously 500km)
Update: Having reached the 500km target by the end of Week 3, I have adjusted the target to 650km+ by the end of May.
I'm walking 650km in May, to raise money through 'INTO Giving'.
To complete this, I must walk over 26,000 steps per day in May, rain or shine. I will post regular updates of my progress, which will be recorded through WeChat's "WeRun" step counter and the Samsung Health app.
INTO Giving will top-up any money I raise by an additional 20% and use the money to support educational projects in China.
The charity
I will be raising money through INTO Giving to Baoji FixedStar Public Welfare Development Center (宝鸡恒星公益发展中心), which focuses on education projects in poor / rural / under developed parts of China. They organise volunteer teaching in schools from returned Chinese international students and donations go on things like school supplies for these schools who are often lacking basic materials and equipment. INTO Giving donated some money to them already as part of our COVID-19 response where they were working to supply protective equipment to Hubei.
About INTO Giving
INTO Giving supports disadvantaged – and very often impoverished – children’s and young people’s education in Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. We help children to go to school, stay in school and we improve the quality of education in their schools. We’ve raised more than $1 million to give schoolchildren hope and the chance to succeed through education.
INTO Giving is a UK registered charity since October 2008. Our annual accounts can be found on the Charity Commission website https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/charity-commission by searching our charity registration number 1126262.
