Local Businesswomen Sing Out For International Women’s Day 2021
When a group of 16 local business women banded together throughout lockdown to give support, share ideas, laughs and more via zoom, something magical happened.
Dawn Girardi brought the original group together and was the first woman to raise the topic of International Women’s Day on the 8th March, and that was that! It was soon agreed that the date should be marked by the women as a collective, but how exactly?
‘Let’s mark the date in song’ said Hannah Brady. In seconds flat their WhatsApp group lit up with a wide selection of eclectic song titles through the (very long) night! With Hannah on lead vocals, it was decided that the most suitable song was the unofficial anthem of International Women’s Day, a song suggested by Sheila Smith & swiftly seconded by Ika Castka.
The project has now grown significantly larger, the women are producing a Band Aid-style video to accompany the song and showcase snapshots of their individual life stories as they chorus the lyrics of this iconic, historical song together, apart. And all dressed for the occasion in their own matching #ThisWoman shirts.
And the best bit? We saved that one until last…it’s also a much needed fundraiser for Northamptonshire Rape Crisis; a charity that supports anyone impacted by sexual violence whether recent or historic and has been supporting the local Northamptonshire community since 1986.
