Story

Please take the time to read my fund raising story on behalf of Bluebell Wood Hospice.

This wonderful Children’s Hospice in North Anston, Sheffield, cares for and supports children and young adults with a shortened life expectancy and a range of complex medical needs. They offer a range of services including; day care, respite care, end of
life treatment and care, community support, young adults group.
Bluebell Wood is a place filled with laughter and love. Families are given the chance to relax, take a break and have fun. They organise fun activities for families to create special memories together, including soft play, gardens, a sensory room and play/music therapy areas.

Their sessions for children and families include play and music therapy, bereavement counselling, and befriending amongst others.

Bluebell Wood is only 1 of 53 children’s hospices in the country. Whilst at the Hospice, families can use of all the facilities, including delicious home-cooked meals, which takes the extra stress away from family members. This means that this precious time can be spent together as a family to have fun and create special memories. As well as this, the staff team organise trips and experiences tailored to each family.Children and families can have their own space in surroundings very different from a typical healthcare setting, and they can come and go as they wish. Many of the families enjoy being able to take their loved ones around the extensive gardens.

The hospice has two ‘end of life’ suites named Primrose and Forget-Me-Not.

These purpose built accommodation suites are where families can stay after their child has passed away, giving them the space and time to say their special goodbyes.

The child stays in a special room very close to their parent’s bedroom, so they are never far from each other. Team members also create special keepsakes,
including hand and foot moulds and memory box items. They also provide emotional and practical support through this very tough time.

Families
are welcome to stay in the suites, which are complete with their own lounge and dining facilities, until their child’s funeral. This gives family members and
friends the opportunity to visit at any time.

I speak from the heart when I say that the work they do is absolutely fantastic, the staff are so committed and compassionate. Please help me to support them by sponsoring me for the Skydive and Retford Half Marathon.

Thanks for reading, and please remember, every little helps and is truly appreciated.

Theresa
