About The Gettalife Project
The Gettalife Project grew out of a special musical celebration: “Real life, Real Soul, Real Gospel” performed to a packed audience at Manchester Cathedral on November 1st, 2008.
The Project's initial vision was to help young people involved in the gun culture of the inner city to discover skills and talents that give respect and potentially lead to employment! It has now widened its aims to enable the development of artistic and craft skills for young adults from a variety of backgrounds and contexts, who have a passion that can be trained to enable a future livelihood.
Over the years we have worked with individual young people, offering a bespoke mentoring package. Musicians, singers, gardeners, a bookbinder, chefs… all people of talent, needing us to speak for them and enable entry into the sphere of skilled work.
In our latest project, to take place in November 2025, we will be extending that approach to work with groups of young adults from the Gospel, African and English church choral traditions to present the world premiere of what we think will be an evocative and memorable anthem written by the world-famous composer, Jonathan Dove.
