Story
Five years have passed since I last laced my trainers to run the 26.2 miles that was New York City Marathon. My memories of the pain and torture seem to have faded a little, the thoughts of early morning runs, blisters, shin splints and unbelievable hunger seem long forgotten. Pain is temporary, pride is forever!
Motivated by the fact that Berlin is flat (ish) and the need to get fit I will be pounding the streets again on 27th September 2015, kindly joined by my friend and running buddy Lesley (to be fair to Lesley, she didn't really have much choice in the matter and has also agreed to help fundraise towards this brilliant cause - huge thanks Lesley!). The training is not only time consuming (four hour runs on a Saturday morning in the rain are not fun, neither are the early starts or late finishes that are needed to cram the pre-race mileage in), gruelling (7 to 8 training sessions a week including cardio, core, weights, flexibility and stamina training), painful and tiring but despite this, extremely challenging, motivational and great FUN!!
With this in mind, I have decided to join the team Men United to raise vital funds for Prostrate Cancer UK; this is a charity very close to my heart following the death of a close friends brother from the disease last year. So whilst I am not looking forward to the prospect of the pain and endurance that marathon training brings, I am doing this not only in memory of David but because so many men out there do not have a choice. If nothing else guys, please check your bits and if things aren't right down there, get checked out sooner rather than later, we want you here for a long time!
My fundraising target is £750.00, every donation no matter how small will help to save lives and help to stop this devastating disease, please dig deep, every penny counts. Oh and if you do happen to see me at 5am pounding the streets when you're on your way to work or on the way home from a night on the tiles, give me a beep, I need all the encouragement I can get!! Thanks in advance for your donation.
