The Tim Reeve Charitable Trust supporting Bloodwise to help young people with blood cancer.
OUR STORY
Ten years ago, in January 2006, Sandra and I sat down with six good friends to talk about my crazy idea to walk to Germany. By the end of the chat, my mind was made up and our ten year fundraising journey began. The conversation took place in the aftermath of the death of our younger son, Tim, from acute leukaemia and was driven, amongst all the emotions, by a certainty that I had to make something good come out of this 'worst of all tragedies' and in Tim's name.
Since then we've been blessed by wonderful support from family, friends old and new, and wonderful acts of kindness and generosity from complete strangers. Each year we've organised various fundraising events, always with the principal aim of giving people a good time in the belief that this was the best way to encourage them to support our cause.
The list of events we’ve organised and taken part in is quite a long one and includes; A ‘Walk of Faith’ from Wickham Bishops to Frankfurt, a Deca Ironman to the Rugby World Cup, an It’s a Knockout Fun Day, 3 Forget Me Not Walks, 3 Essex Dragon Boat events, 3 Barn Dances, Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, National 3 Peaks Challenge, 3 Coast to Coast Bike rides, London to Paris Bike Ride and Birmingham to Hamelin bike ride.
In addition, we've been delighted and humbled by lots of people organising and committing to do their own event or challenge. In all, people have walked more than 6000 miles, run 25 marathons, climbed 30 mountains, completed 3 triathlons, 2 mud races and organised quizzes, coffee mornings, Charity Balls, golf days, Quilting exhibitions …….
Ten years later and a lot more people know about the plight of people with blood cancer and more than £457,000 has been raised to fund research to save lives, make lives better and stop people getting blood cancer.
In 2016, to remember and celebrate Tim’s short life, we are planning a series of events involving lots of other people and with the intention of smashing our £500,000 target and beyond. So far, this is what is in the pipeline
Three Peaks Challenge – June 4/5 - Lauren, Elliott and friends will climb Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours.
