Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page. This is a great opportunity to support some really awesome causes.
On November 15th 2011 GVI Cape Town completed our first Charity Challange, raising over £10,000! The time has come to lace up our boots, put on our backpacks and try desperately to avoid thinking about how much it is going to hurt! This latest amazing challenge is inspired by the wish to get kids active within the community, and to support the communities we work in. With that in mind, the idea is to cover the seemingly daunting 80km Heorikwaggo trail running from Cape Point to the top of Table Mountain through glorious surroundings and over one of the natural wonders of the world. Most people take a leisurely 5 days, so naturally we want to do it in 3.
In addition to those taking part in the full 3 day challenge we are hoping to encourage other volunteers, staff and local community members, to fundraise and take part in the final day's climb of Table Mountain.
The challenge will be raising funds via the GVI Charitable Trust www.gvi.org, (our registered charity) to directly support our Cape Town projects e.g. ACJ Primary School currently has nowhere to store vital sports equipment, and in keeping with our aim to get the local kids active we would like to help to fund storage and new sports equipment to encourage participation for as many people as possible.
Welcome to GVI's latest ridiculous challenge. A group of crazy people walking 80km in 3 days. Throw in a mountain or two just to be on the safe side. Wouldn't want anyone thinking it was too easy...
Why would we do this? Good question. It's the latest Charity Challenge to raise money for the projects in Cape Town. In this case we are particularly focusing on ACJ Primary School, which is currently being rebuilt. This building work makes outdoor activities a lot more challenging and th
We have been lucky enough to receive generous donations of sports equipment in the past and these things need to be safely stored at the school. A secure container for storage will cost around R25,000, which is approximately $3000 and £2000, and we also hope to raise enough money to get extra sports resources for the children at ACJ.
