AXA PPP Three Peaks Challenge

Team photo

We are Sarah Isted and Rob Low and we are Renewal Advisors at AXA PPP Healthcare. We will be doing the 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours during the August Bank Holiday weekend to raise money for Corey Ashcroft’s treatment.

Sarah has never done anything like this before and currently can’t run a mile – let alone climb 3 mountains! She found Corey’s appeal via Twitter and is taking the opportunity to take on a challenge while helping a very good cause.

Rob is a keen gym-goer but has only been to the top of one mountain, and that was by car.  He was moved by Corey’s story and felt it wasn’t enough to feel bad about it, the right thing to do was to start making a difference. Hence a hastily planned mountaineering trip.

We have set a challenging target to raise £1000 for Corey but the family need to raise £250,000 for his treatment so every penny helps! Please help us achieve this and help this little boy.

On 20th April 2011, Corey was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma.  A rare childrens cancer that is aggressive and harder to treat than other cancers.

Corey has an abdominal tumour that had grown very quickly to such a size that it was pushing his vital organs out, creating a huge mass protruding fom his stomach.

Corey has begun his intensive chemotherapy treatment at Manchester Childrens Hospital.  He has had to endure a lot in the last 2 months; including daily medicines, painful surgery, chemotherapy which makes him sick and weak, being fed through a nose tube and spending most of his time in hospital.  Corey is a fighter and despite all of the above he is doing well.  He is responding to the chemotherapy and the tumour has started to shrink.

Coreys treatment plan will involve him being hospitalised for the best part of 12 months.  He faces the risk of infections, side effects, constant medication and more worryingly, the chance of not responding to the treatment he receives here in the UK.

We are raising money to send Corey to the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia.  Given the larger population, America is better prepared to deal with this type of cancer that only affects 80-100 people each year, here in the UK.  Extensive research has shown that Corey has an improved chance of survival by receiving all immunotherapy drugs as per a proven trial.  This is, as opposed to the randomised trial offered in the UK.  It is going to cost anywhere up to £250,000 to ensure Corey is given the best treatment available; a huge amount of money.

Please take our word that he is worth every penny and more.
