Alma's Lake District Three Peaks Mountain Challenge
Imagine for a minute that you were in charge of running a hospital. Better yet, imagine what it takes to build one. The story of Alma Hospital Trust and its founder, Mohammed Younis, is a story about strength, tenacity and inspiration. It’s simply put, the story of a local postman from Hertfordshire, who spent 10 years of his life campaigning to raise the £1m it cost to build a modern hospital in one of the poorest regions in the world, Hafizabad, Pakistan.
We are a team of people who all met Mohammed Younis, and we have seen first-hand the immeasurable positive impact that the hospital has on the lives of thousans of poor people who receive free medical treatment each day at Alma Bi Hospital. During specialist camps organised entirely through charitable donations, patients sometimes travel as far as 200 miles to the Alma Bi Hospital in order to receive free treatment they can't find anywhere else in the country.
So we’ve all come together, in a challenge organised through the support of our friends at Domino’s Pizza, with an aim to raise not only £10000, but also awareness about the trust. The funds our team is raising will directly be used to support an upcoming free hepatitis screening camp. Hepatitis is one of the biggest causes of ill-health and death in Pakistan, with over 10 million being infected with Hepatitis C alone. Any additional monies that surpass the cost of the camp will go towards medical equipment and facilities at the hospital.
