Simon Beadel - The Very Best of British

Team photo

Firstly, we thank you for taking the time out to read this. To have found your way to this site, you more than likely either knew or know someone close to Simon Beadel, who is sadly no longer with us having passed away on 6th January 2009. Since his death his mum and dad (Sue and Chris) have gone above and beyond to raise money in Si’s name, two Summer Balls meticulously planned and executed have given us all the opportunity to remember Si with next year’s being the last (the Ball is scheduled for 10th August 2013 and will be themed “Best of British” with tickets to go on sale early 2013).

Associated with the ball, the last major event to raise money in Si’s name, it’s only right that we do something challenging, something grueling that will lead to tears. Si was born into a military life back in 1983 in Gibraltar and was laid to rest in Highworth, Wiltshire and as the crow flies, or at least as by Google Maps, the distance is 1085 miles/1746km. In weird and wonderful ways, as a collective, we plan to cover the distance between the two.

It’s important to learn a little about Si and then you’ll understand the inspiration.

Si could be best described as good looking, cheeky, fiercely loyal and driven to do whatever he put his mind towards. Covering every inch of someone’s room with cups of water, or ‘planting’ cress on their carpet, driving friends to the hospital after the ‘BBQ incident’ or his attention to detail when dressing in all manner of weird and wonderful outfits, Si put a 100% into everything he did and would always be someone you could rely on. Whilst we all deal with his loss in different ways, through this we can really make a difference in his name and hopefully inspire others to do the same.

Some are booking marathons, some are planning to cycle across the country, others are planning on swimming crazy distances whilst one person is even looking into kayaking the Channel!! A 24 hour golf tournament and a 24 hour Karaoke are other events to be planned before August and we urge you to be inspired and organize an event. A mile or 200 miles will all chip away and even if you don’t have the time to do some physical exertion, there are so many ideas for raising money and from a penny to a pound everything raised will go to a good cause.

Collectively we can leave a lasting memory for Si. Be Inspired.
