Two amateur cyclists, Hamish Budge and James Kane follow in the foot steps of Napoleon Bonaparte with a 700km journey.
On Sunday Hamish Budge and James Kane (two novice Cyclists) will endeavor to cycle over 700 km along the great Route Napoleon from Golfe Juan (nr Cannes) to Grenoble and back in 6 days.
The route Route Napoleon is the route through the Alps which Napoleon took having escaped from Elba before the start of the famous ‘100 days War’ which ended with the Battle of Waterloo. He took this difficult and steep route through the mountains in order to avoid the armies loyal to King Louis XVIII in Provence. We will climb over 8000m, in total, on our way to Grenoble. We are going to camp along the way so will be carrying tents and sleeping bags etc. with us.
We intend to do this in support of the TeenageWilderness Trust and Help for Heroes. The Wilderness is a charity set up by James’s brother-in-law, which helps rehabilitate young teenagers who have fallen out the education system. Help for Heroes is a charity set up in order to provide first class rehabilitation to wounded soldiers from both Iraq and Afghan Wars. It also seeks to provide key support for families to help them get through these immense struggles.
All the money raised will go to these two charities. The expenses of the trip will be covered entirely by Hamish and James.
