The Manky Shearwaters (Andrew Stafford, Steve Davidson, Sean Dooley and Chris Watson) will be participating in the Victorian Twitchathon which begins at 4pm on Saturday the 7th of November and ends 24 hours later on Sunday 8th at 4pm. In that 24 hours we'll travel frantically, but methodically, across the state trying to see and identify as many different species of Victorian birds as possible. The record is well over 200 species, and with a bit of luck and careful planning we might go close.
Please think of our bleary eyes as we stumble across the finish line on the 8th and dig deep to donate to a very important cause - the conservation of the birdlife that surrounds us all. Many of our birds aren't faring too well and are getting much harder to find as a result. BirdLife Australia are the peak bird conservation organisation in Australia and do a lot of crucial advocacy, research, and on-ground work in support of our birds.
