This summer AMCL staff are taking part in one of two sponsored events to raise money for our chosen charity ‘Practical Action’ in order to directly support the building of an electricity micro-generation scheme in Mozambique.
‘Practical Action’ is an international development charity that uses simple technology to change the lives of the world’s poorest people. AMCL aims to raise at least £20,000 in 2011 towards an electricity micro-generation scheme in a village within the Manica district of western Mozambique with a population of 4,800 people.
The availability of electricity will have a massive impact upon their agricultural system by mechanising the crucial task of grain milling, vastly reducing production time. Another key benefit is the ability to power a fridge in the local clinic which will allow the storage of vaccines, increasing their availability to members of the community.
The two events we’re running in September are the ‘3-Peaks Challenge’, and a ‘3-day Canoe paddle from Reading to London’. We hope you will join us in supporting the scheme by sponsoring one, or both, of the events below.
