Story
On July 19th, us 6 will be running 10K around the
New Romney area to raise money and awareness for Niemann-Pick UK.
This is a charity close to our hearts as our older cousin Simon has been diagnosed with Niemann Pick Type C. Simon suffers quite severely with the disease, displaying nearly all the symptoms. It has had a massive impact on his short term memory together with his balance, eating, drinking and walking to name but a few. Simon has now had to give up his part-time job and attends Tenterden disabled group five days a week.
Simon is unable to do the everyday things in life that we, his cousins, take
for granted. He can't go anywhere on his own or be left alone, he can't pop to
the pub to meet his mates, he cant have a kick about with a football - Simon
can't even sit down and eat on his own as there is always the fear he might choke. Seeing the
impact that this has had on his life, as well as that of our Auntie and Uncle
is our biggest motivation to do this run and help raise money to provide care,
support and information.
Despite this illness, he remains cheerful and upbeat with a huge grin on his
face- so we know he is still our Si! He is always interested to hear about our
lives and what we have been up to and is a complete ray of sunshine. We are so
lucky to have him as our cousin.
We have picked the New Romney 10K as it is close to home where we grew up
taking walks on the beach and shrimping at Lydd-on-Sea with Simon and his
brother, and it is close to where our family still lives today. We will be
running as four cousins together, along with our partners who are equally
passionate about raising funds and awareness for this terrible disease.
Thank you so much for visiting our page- your support is more appreciated that
you could imagine!
