Story
I work for an amazing company called Yutree Insurance Ltd who amongst many other things are incredibly supportive of us and our ideas.
When the 'Walk Your Socks Off' idea was started it was originally for a person to walk 100,000 steps in one week in May- tricky for a desk jockey like us and then the lockdown happened so this has been rejigged as staying home is the priority
Between the 4th and 10th of May, we are going to walk as many steps as we can in our homes/gardens in unusual ways. I intend to climb Ben Nevis (up and down my stairs), Sara is planning a Ab Fab patsy style walk to celebrate her birthday! As a team we definitely will make to 100,000 and you get to see photos and videos of us looking a bit daft! #TeamYutree
When I asked my friends at Yutree if they would like to join in they were really supportive and put their names down straight away...why? because we are all slightly bonkers and they want to help raise funds for Guide Dogs
Why Guide Dogs? We have a genetic sight disorder in my family which had left my grandmother and uncle blind. My mum was diagnosed with it a number of years ago and it was well managed but a month before lockdown she was told she would need an urgent operation , if she didn't she would lose her sight in the next 12 months. The good news is the first op took place last week thanks to our amazing NHS.
We have as a family seen the amazing work Guide Dogs do, providing independence to so many visually impaired people. They also provide so many other services such as large print/audio books and supporting visually impaired people and their families, and this is so needed now. Imagine how challenging going to the supermarket must be now for visually impaired people with social distancing requirements and not being able to get online deliveries .We're taking part in the sponsored step challenge that's good for the "sole" this May!
As we walk we will be raising vital funds for Guide Dogs to help those with sight loss step out with confidence.
The sponsorship money you help us raise really will make a difference. Just £140 could buy a Starter Kit for a new guide dog owner, containing everything they need to start a life with their new guide dog, this includes the iconic white harness.
Go on knock our socks off!
