Story
Cambridge Mountain Goats, Zara, Laurence, Sarah, Eve and Ruth are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks walking marathon challenge on Saturday 26th June 2021 in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. Despite not getting much exercise over the last 14 months, we're planning on jumping in at the deep end and conquering the 40km hike in under 12 hours!
We would be very grateful for your sponsorship for this great cause, which touches many people all around the world.
As part of our 'strict' training programme, we will be walking to Wimpole from various outposts of Cambridge on the 16th May, where we will be partaking of a well-deserved team pub lunch before nursing our blisters and hobbling home (photos to follow - not of the blisters).
21 May update
The Wimpole walk was a great success, clocking up around 30km and very few blisters!
We’re all feeling much more confident about the Yorkshire challenge, although the hills will be the most worrying part for the Cambridge-based Goats.
Goat-Eve based in Preston has been stoically scaling her local hills so she can cheer on the Swamp-Goats and lead us on to victory in June!
18 June update
The countdown is on: only eight days to go before the mega walk!
T-shirts have arrived. We're as ready as we'll ever be.
After our training regime, we all feel ready to hit those peaks. Looking forward to a cool beer and fish and chips in the pub at the end!
Many thanks to all those who have sponsored us so far. It's encouraging to know that so many of you are rooting for us.
There's still time to sponsor us. Every penny goes towards a great cause, and spurs us on to reach our goal!
June 27
We all made it! We stumbled/skipped over the finish line about 8pm after a wonderful day.
Muscles, joints and sunburned skin slightly uncomfortable, but we’re full of pride for our achievement!
Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you.
