Story

OUR TEAM NAME : WALK THE TALK

Daz 💙

Max 💙

Alfie 💙

Terry 💙

Walking for my brother Daz 💙💙💙but also for all those who’ve lost their headspace battle in this crazy world 💙

My gorgeous daughter in law is walking for her Dad Max - a few words from her ‘Dad (Max) passed away 31st October 2008, I was only 7 but I’ll never forget that night.

After years of suffering his battle with mental health sadly he took his own life.

I don’t really remember much about my dad as he’s been gone so long and I was so young but my favourite memory was waking up in the morning before school and getting in bed with him to watch noddy, bob the builder and Fifi and the flower tots 🩷

I’d like to think that he’d be proud of me and my family I’ve made.’

My lovely adopted sister Hannah for her Uncle Terry 💙💙 story to follow…

Longest serving best friend Jenni is walking for us all - she’s been my rock and a constant in my life and was my saviour when I spent nearly four months in Dane Garth and I genuinely wouldn’t be here without all of these ladies and many more 💙💙

We have always talked openly and honestly about mental health and yet sadly there’s still not enough support out there, still stigmas, and the system and world fails way too many and we are losing to many people both male and female at very young and older ages.

We can’t go back and change what’s happened but we can fundraise and if we can save one life, help support families and help to keep breaking the stigmas attached to mental health and encourage people to talk more then it’s a positive way to use our grief and support those that lose people too 💙💙

Nobody should ever feel alone 💙💙because you’ll never be alone 💙

Let’s try and save some lives and remember it’s okay to talk, it’s okay to ask for help but also please tell everyone to never ever feel ashamed or feel lost because believe me the world is a better place with you in it 💙💙 it’s okay to talk, it’s okay to cry and it’s okay to not be okay 💙

We never know what other people are battling with in their heads if we don’t ask ‘how are you today’ We live in a world of social media and technology and it’s easy to hide behind screens 💙 human contact is important 💙

On Sept 22nd myself and my friends and family are doing the Stride Against Suicide walk to do as many laps as possible in a two hour time slot at Fell Foot - we would love to raise as much as we can and every single donation is important and appreciated so much 💙💙

On average more than one person a week dies by suicide in Cumbria, more than double the amount that die on our County's roads. Every death by suicide is an avoidable tragedy.

Suicides are preventable. We need a society where people feel able to reach out for help. Where members our communities have the knowledge and skills to recognise when someone is at risk and to know how to offer support. And services that are accessible and effective.

Suicide is everyone's business 💙💕
