Story
When I became seriously ill at the age of only 21, thirty years ago, with a rare genetic liver disease called Wilsons, Dr Richard Crofton and Kings College Hospital saved my life together with my angel donor and her family selflessly agreeing to organ donation. I was flown by air ambulance from Law Hospital in Carluke, Scotland to Kings College Hospital in London - 405 miles from home - where I received my life saving liver transplant within days of diagnosis.
To commemorate and celebrate my 30th Liverversary, I, together with help from family and friends, would like to raise funds for 2 charities both very meaningful to me by walking the 405 miles from Law Hospital to King's College Hospital.
The first is in memory of the wonderful man who diagnosed my condition, Dr Richard W Crofton, he saved my life! He was not only my Dr but my friend and confidante when navigating life after illness and transplantation. Sadly, he is no longer with us today and is greatly missed. Therefore, I would like to raise money for the Endoscopy Suite in Wishaw General Hospital in his memory and where I am still a frequent visitor.
Secondly, I would like to raise funds for Kings College Hospital, TLC appeal. The Transforming Live Care Appeal to help re-write the future for children with liver disease. If it wasn't for the skill and dedication of the transplant team in Todd Ward I can honestly say I would not be here today to tell you my story.
Please help me show my gratitude and help me give a little back (no matter how small a donation) to two very important charities so that they can continue to provide life saving care to others and fund just a little more research into liver disease, organ donation and transplantation....because without them I wouldn't be here today.
Please note that we're hoping to raise funds equally between the two charities and each has a page below linked to the 2 'team members'.
Thank you so much
Heather
