WHY AM I'M RAISING FUNDS?
Watching the events unfolding in Ukraine, I am reminded how war brings unimaginable suffering to those caught up in it. I feel deeply moved to do something practical to help but also to raise consciousness about the value of peace. With your help, I hope to raise funds for people in crisis by bringing people together in the name of peace to raise funds for urgently needed humanitarian relief.
As a teacher, I also believe passionately that education has a vital role to play in helping young people to develop life skills and values they need to live a fulfilling and peaceful life. In truth, peace is an inside job. It starts with ourselves and the World Peace Flame's 'Peace in your Hands' education pack guides young people through the process in a fun and engaging way. Mahatma Ghandi said, 'If we wish to create a lasting peace, we must begin with the children.'
INVITATION:
I'd like to invite you to support both the Red Cross and the World Peace Flame charities, or the cause that speaks to you most**
HOW YOUR DONATIONS WILL HELP:
The British Red Cross help people in crisis. As the security situation allows, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will continue to respond to existing and emerging humanitarian needs. The Red Cross has supported people affected by this conflict for years and will not stop now.
This response includes: Supporting families with food, first aid and medicines. Supporting hospitals and healthcare facilities. Repairing vital infrastructure. Helping to repair homes, healthcare centres, schools and community centres.
Peace Education in Action is a project of the World Peace Flame Foundation. It is a world wide community who believe that making human values natural and fun is the way to enrich a childs life. That's why the Peace in Your Hands education pack was created, based on the core values of trust, friendship and love as a way to lasting peace.
At the time of writing, the Education Programme has reached over 46,000 children in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, India, Kenya, Argentina, Nepal, Rwanda, Syria and more but there is much more work to be done.
4 WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:
1. You can simply sponsor me to complete a Peace Walk in Gwynedd, North Wales. This 34 mile walk links the World Peace Flame in Bethesda, to the two Sri Chinmoy Peace statues in Llanberis and Treborth Botanic Gardens. It will take me 4 days
2. You may wish to make a donation and join us for all or any part of this walk from 4th-7th September 2022. It will take us through mountains (and a bog!) woodland, coastal paths, lakes and rivers, Bangor and a wealth of Welsh historical sites. For more information, contact me using my contact details at the end of this story.
3. If you can't join us this time, you may wish to bring friends and family together to do your own Walk for Peace in your area. The International Day of Peace is on 21st September but it doesn’t matter when your event is! Any donations, however big or small, ALL make a difference!
4. Walking not your thing? You can raise funds by doing what you love most. Run, cycle, swim, dance, meditate for peace! The list is endless.
Please spread the word and together, let's make a difference for those in crisis and for generations to come.
Thanks so much for any help you can give and know that no matter how big or small, EVERY donation counts!
Love
Naomi x

LET’S CELEBRATE!
Thanks to Jane O’Halloran in Yorkshire for getting involved! Jane was inspired to organise a Walk for Peace and Humanitarian Relief in July when she first heard about the idea and organised a walk in the Chevin hills with some of her students and friends. Well done everyone and thank you for your donations!
Much appreciated, personal support from the Red Cross who spotted what we are doing. Thank you Becky Lynes and everyone at the Red Cross for all you are doing to help those in crisis. Where would we be without people like you!
