We fund research & therapeutic initiatives to improve the lives of those with cancer

Story

On the 5th May 4 intrepid colleagues will set out to climb as high as they can: indoors.

With a view to raising money for Climbers Against Cancer, Chris Cox, Al Groome, John Sutherland and Gerald Teivas-White will be climbing the indoor boulder routes at The Project Climbing Centre in Poole for a solid 12 hours.

Whilst the levels of danger won’t be anything near those experienced by the likes of Alex Honnold in Free Solo as he climbed a route on El Cap in Yosemite National Park over 3000 feet tall without a rope, it will no doubt be tough going. We also won’t have a rope, but since we’re only climbing to about 15 feet high continuously, that won’t be a problem.

Our aim is to see just how high we can get – we’ve got some targets to aim for – height of The Helm, The Eiffel Tower, The Empire State, Snowdon, El Cap, maybe even Everest (well, from Base Camp to the summit perhaps).

Climbing continuously on man-made holds will certainly be a challenge – for one, none of us have climbed for that period of time before, the holds will play havoc with the skin on our hands, our forearms will be screaming for mercy, the routes could become monotonous, meaning we’ll have to keep our wits about us to stay safe at all times, the music could be really bad……. The list goes on.

Each of us have a personal connection to this terrible condition, so we want to do what we can to help fund more research into curing Cancer.

If you’ve got the ability to spare a few pennies for our endeavour, it would be greatly appreciated, and as an added bonus, Barclays will match every donation £4£ so your donation will effectively be doubled!
