Story

As a team we’ll be running the London marathon 2025 to raise money & awareness for the brand new Valencia Monroe day unit.

Also known as the Rapid access clinic located in Royal Brompton hospital , which will be officially opening 14th August 2024.

Valencia was born on 18th march 2022 , she had a heart condition called AVSD which we knew about pre birth. But to what extent nobody knew.

This is because NO ONE had ever checked her condition post natal. She had never had an x ray / echo scan or anything close up until the day of her death ( 16/04/22).

We was advised that my daughter Valencia should and would be seen by the Royal Brompton hospital within 2-4 weeks of life.

We was told she would live a normal life up until then , which she did. Valencia died at 4 weeks 1 day… 1 day after the advised timeframe.

She had a lifelong care plan set up prior to her birth with the Royal Brompton hospital, but her first ever appointment was on 19/04/22… 3 days after her death.

That’s why we’ve been pushing so hard for this brand new rapid access clinic which ensures babies born with a similar defect to Valencia or with a heart condition which parents are worried about they are able to be seen much quicker.

Now all babies born with a pre natal heart defect must be seen within 72 hours of life, as a pose to 4 weeks. This clinic was made off the back of the mistakes made with Valencia and the lack of care she received.

Now our focus is to help as much babies as possible urgently get the care they need and deserve.

All proceeds will go towards the new unit.

Every year more than 103,000 children and young people experience the wonderful warmth of Evelina London, which is part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. They see first-hand the care and passion of the Evelina London team who are exploring new approaches and creating ground-breaking care for children and young people.

To give you an idea of the impact of your donation:

£10 could help put a childs mind at ease with imaginative toys, books and games that explain what happens in hospital.

£100 could help the team put together amazing rucksacks full of distraction toys for every ward and department.

£350 could buy even more DVD players with headphones and give every child the chance to escape into their favourite film.

Thank you so much for your support!
