Story

We're Walking Together, Saving Lives. We are a bunch of sonographers (all friends: Carmel, Rina, Laura, Sally, Durai, Nicola, & Annie ) who all work or met at Barts Health NHS trust and have a collective number of over 145 years dedicating our time to the NHS. Blood cancer is a bitch and we are dedicating this walk to two special people affected by this awful disease.

Carmel is running/walking this distance on her 43rd birthday, because the Anthony Nolan Trust is extremely close to her heart. Carmel’s Mum died 20 years ago from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Diagnosed when Carmel was just 11 years old, and the care and treatment her Mum received at St Bartholomew’s hospital (including a bone marrow transplant) influenced Carmel’s decision to do her degree in diagnostic radiography.

Kate Gallimore (Gill) is a dear friend of Annie’s and currently undergoing chemo and radiotherapy treatment for a rare form of lymphoma. She is awaiting stem cell transplant in the near future as a match has hopefully just been found. Kate herself is an NHS Consultant colorectal surgeon who also worked for a short spell at Barts Health and has dedicated her working life to treating and saving so many others. She is very grateful to transplant charities as transplant is often the only hope for many people.

We want to spread the NHS rainbow of hope for others affected by blood cancer by raising whatever we can ( better if we can go beyond our total mentioned). Please give generously 😊

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and to show my support Im taking on a sponsored walk to raise lifesaving funds for Anthony Nolan. For someone with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant could be their last chance of survival. Today, five people will start their search for a stranger to save their life. Anthony Nolan is the charity that makes lifesaving connections between people with blood cancer and incredible strangers ready to donate their stem cells. It costs £40 to add each new potential donor to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register. Every new person on the register means another chance for someone to find their lifesaving match. By donating to my page, you will be giving more people with blood cancer the chance of a future. Thank you. Without you, there is no cure.
