Story

It is with great sadness that we must update our page with the news that our dear Dad passed on 14th June 2021. He lived a long and happy life but no longer had the strength or will to fight after losing our Mum in July last year. During his last year he became so confused and lonely with all the restrictions making it difficult for us to comfort him.

The past year has been tough for everyone but coronavirus has been devastating for people affected by dementia and continues to disrupt lives. Our visits were restricted, often allowing just one of us to be his visitor. As his twin daughters this was hard to explain to him and we lost so much time with him during his final year. We were only able to take him out of his care home once in May to attend the burial of our Mum's ashes.

So that's why we have taken on the Step Up for Dementia Challenge. The target is to walk 850,000 steps in three months, the current number of people living with dementia in the UK. Please donate to support us and to ensure that Alzheimer's Society can be there for the people who need them most.

Final Totals: Margaret - 890,451 steps/Barbara - 867,254 steps
