Story
What?! ANOTHER legendary Turner fund-raising event for Prostate Cancer Uk?! Well, strap yourselves in because this is going to be quite the ride!
About a year ago, mum and I had the brilliant idea of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK. What a wild achievement that would be! To cut a long story short, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel.
But fear not! We were thrown a rope! A 'Get Out of Jail Free‘ card. Another gleaming opportunity to show our devotion and commitment to the amazing charity that is Prostate Cancer UK! HURRAH! The story doth continue... in WALES!
Fast forward a bit and Gezza is smashing it; showing the world that sixty-something is only a number, leaving the youth on the starting line and excelling towards the hefty 13 mile goal.
Predictably, my progress has not been quite the same... Having sustained a rather nasty meniscal injury during a heated doggy-paddle race, I was left on the blocks.
Two months later and we faced a difficult decision - to be or not to be.
Ladies and gentleman... we...are...running. With just a month to go, I’ve decided to go for gold. Step aside, Mo...
It's of no surprise to any of you I am sure as to why this is important to us, both as a fund raiser and an achievement. It will be 8 years in November since we lost Dad to Prostate Cancer. We can't believe where that time has gone. We lost a true pillar of our family - a support, a friend, a husband. It has left a hole in so many lives.
In that time, we have learnt so much about Prostate Cancer and thanks to the wonderful work at Prostate Cancer UK we are making progress in battling the disease.
We are, however, a long way off. There are around 12,000 deaths a year - 33 every single day. Not just older people, but younger men. It can be a brutal and aggressive disease, with harsh, invasive treatments and grim prognoses.
Dad was offered the best of care and treatments thanks to pioneering research. It extended his life span and gave us valuable extra years as a family. We need to keep this research going; keep the treatments, trials and support going. We need to give our loved ones the best chance.
Now the awkward bit - we are asking you to support this cause with all your generosity. To quote a well-known superstore: every little helps. Please give whatever you can to help us reach our goal.
Lots of love,
James and Geraldine
