Story
Hi - Audrey here - My friend made me do this, and I made Dave do this, and here we all are, doing this...
First of all, Level Water is a fabulous charity providing swimming lessons to disabled children...and I'm really understanding first hand how wonderful swimming can be for body and soul. Secondly, the friend - John Goldwyn - also the team leader - who convinced me to do this has not only been a real advocate for the health benefits of open water swimming, but experienced those benefits first hand when he suffered a thalamic avm in 2019. With his mind and body in excellent condition through swimming open water, his continued practice (the pandemic closed pools 20/21), is not only helping him work through the hypoesthesia (numbness/tingling) he experiences down one side of his body, but also keeps his mindset positive - a huge part of his recovery as he, and family and friends navigate though.
I've never swum open water before, until this year, I'd barely swum in the UK before...and bless him, Dave didn't get much choice in the matter. We have a target of £200 per team to make (but there's 8 of us) - we understand that you may have already sponsored our other causes, and we a NOT asking for more, but if you haven't, we are so grateful for your support.
Thank you
THE TROPICAL FISH xx
About LEVEL WATER: The first splash. Holding your breath. The echoes of laughter. The wet hair. Lifted spirits. The joy of gliding through water. The smile that lasts all day.
Swimming is like nothing else. The skills you develop, the confidence you build and the joys you feel are all universal. Yet access to swimming in the UK is not.
Level Water use the power of swimming to improve lives for
children with disabilities.
Everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim and fall in love with the water.
