Story
On Saturday 21st August, best friends Ewan and Samuel (and their mummies of course!) will be staying up way past their bedtime and taking part in the London Spectrum Night Walk to raise money for the National Autistic Society. As some of you may know, Samuel and Ewan are both autistic themselves and we are so proud of them for choosing to raise money and awareness surrounding autism. Being autistic means that their brains are wired differently to most people and unfortunately the world isn’t always set up to make it easy or comfortable for them, so the National Autistic Society are always striving to campaign for awareness and acceptance for autistics in the UK.
About the boys:
Samuel and Ewan are both 6 years old, they love the emergency services, public transport but above all their passion is trains. For those of you who have met them we can guarantee that the conversation has quickly turned to something involving trains! They are the loveliest boys and we are teaching them to be proud of who they are and aware of why they may face the struggles they do.
About autism:
Over the years, as parents it has become apparent that there isn’t as much awareness about autism as we had hoped. Many people believe that you have to look a certain way to be autistic or display certain behaviours but that’s simply not true. If you have met one autistic person, then you have met one autistic person. No two are the same. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability affecting how people communicate and interact with the world. 1 in every 100 people are on the autism spectrum.
The NAS help approximately 700,000 autistic people in the UK and their families. Be it running specialist schools, campaigning for improved rights or training companies on being more autism-friendly, they are dedicated to transforming lives and changing attitudes.
