Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!

The Thunderducks were born over 15 years ago when the three of us teamed up to compete in a canoe race held on the River Blackwater in our hometown, Maldon. After a (very) long hiatus the Thunderducks have regrouped on land to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 7th April.

Together we have chosen to run to raise money for the mental health charity Mind.

All three of us have loved and lost friends to mental health illness over the years along with having worked through our own mental health challenges. As NHS waiting lists and private treatment costs continue to increase, throughout our half marathon training and beyond the event itself our aim is to raise awareness of the mental health support services which are available for free both nationally and locally in our community.

Mind's information and guidance on mental health has been accessed over 23 million times since 2022. Immediate help is offered in the form of emergency advice, crisis resources, helplines, and topical guidance in Mind's A-Z of mental health (available here: https://www.mind.org.uk/need-urgent-help/using-this-tool/). Additionally, there are different types of specialist support available for sufferers of addiction, gambling, abuse, bereavement and emergency responders (to name a few).

Lesser known are the 100 'local' Mind hubs across England and Wales (yours can be found here https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/local-minds/). The local Mind for our friends and family living in our hometown, Maldon, is Mid and North East Essex Mind, which is located at The Constantine Centre, 272a Mersea Road, Colchester, CO2 8QZ. Further information is available at https://mnessexmind.org/.

Our aim is to make the breadth of these services known to you and ask that you please pass the message on to your family, friends, work colleagues and anyone else who might benefit from them.

Any donation to our fundraiser, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. You can find the links to each of our individual donation pages below.

Messages of support for our training also much appreciated (and needed!!)

Thank you so much.
