Story
Did you know that every three minutes, somebody in the UK is told they have dementia. Or that there are currently 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK? This number is expected to double in the next twenty years. But dementia won’t win. Alzheimer’s Society is doing everything they can to find a cure, but they need our help. That’s why we're taking on the Trek26 Stonehenge challenge for Alzheimer’s Society, and we'd be so grateful if you’d kindly support us by making a donation on our page:
What?
Trek26 Stonehenge: We will be walking 26 miles around Salisbury, near Stonehenge, on Saturday 3 September, 2022, joining loads of other walkers in support of Alzheimer's Society.
Why This?
Given the above stats, you won't be surprised to learn that all four of us have known, loved and lost family and friends to Alzheimer's. It's a cause close to our hearts. There is currently no cure, and limited treatments, although scientists are working hard to find one. Everything we raise here will help support this important cause, giving hope to other families and individuals who may be affected by the disease.
Why Us?
I mean, look at us. It's clear we need to get fit. We are four friends who've worshipped and walked together for over ten years, across all four corners of the UK. We're working hard over the coming months to make sure that 26 miles isn't completely beyond us, and your kind donations will provide that extra motivation we're going to need. That and Gummy Bears. A lot of Gummy Bears. Thank you!
Why Now?
Dementia affects so many people. We want to raise awareness of dementia, while fundraising for Alzheimer's Society's critical services and research. They do some amazing work, and we want to help them keep getting that message out.
What Else?
Just £9.90 can begin someone’s Dementia Connect journey with a call from one of Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Advisers who are experts and provide information, guidance, and support.
£50 pays for 86 Dementia Guides. There is no dementia pathway once a diagnosis has been given. That is why the Guide is such a lifeline. Packed with advice on how to live as well as possible with dementia, and how families, friends and carers can plan.
£300 means over 1,800 people can access Dementia Talking Point, an online community. Here people can learn from each other's experiences, share their frustrations and their knowledge of local services.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in support of Alzheimer's Society, and an even bigger thank you for your donation. It means a lot.
